Growing Old Gracefully

Audrey Hepburn once said “The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a Woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she knows.” I used to think that we aged gracefully and gained beauty as time passed now I know better.

Having reached the fabulous age of fifty. Yes FIFTY! I have more insight into the aging process than some. Many will not agree with my views but they are mine and you can’t change them…
As each day shows more grey at my temples and more lines on my face I think about my youth. The pretty smooth face, the huge 80’s hair, the thin waist. Sigh. A recent diagnosis of mild arthritis in my now swollen and sore foot makes me wonder what will come next…I have already survived being widowed at 43 and survived an aneurysm at 44. I am a survivor! I will not let this thing called old age stop me!

I have regressed to my more youthful days and remembered how I wanted to age so here we go…

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!”

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to get a martini.
